But for some couples, the place that tells their story best is the one they already come home to every day.
Sarah and Briley’s Wimberley Texas engagement session took place entirely inside and outside of them home, alongside the three dogs that have become such a meaningful part of their life together. They wanted photographs that felt personal, comfortable, and true to this season of life rather than creating an experience that felt disconnected from who they actually are.
As a Wimberley engagement photographer, those are often my favorite sessions to document.
Why Sarah and Briley Chose an In-Home Engagement Session
Like many couples, Sarah and Briley worried about feeling uncomfortable in front of the camera. That concern is far more common than most people realize.
The people I photograph are rarely worried about whether the photos will be beautiful. More often, they’re worried about how it will feel to be photographed. They don’t want an experience that feels forced, performative, or overly posed.
Choosing their home immediately removed much of that pressure.
Instead of arriving somewhere unfamiliar and wondering what to do, they were already in a place that felt like them. The environment was familiar. Their dogs were there. And the details they had spent year building together were very much present
The session started to feel less like a photoshoot and more like documenting an ordinary evening in a season they never want to forget.
The Meaning Behind Their Wimberley Home
One of my favorite parts of this session was seeing how much intention had gone into the space itself.
Sarah and Briley have spent a significant amount of time making their house feel like home. Every room reflected years of effort, creativity, and care. The space wasn’t simply where they lived. It was something they had built together.
That is part of what made photographing the session there feel so meaningful.
ears from now, the walls may be painted different colors. The furniture may change. Dogs may grow older. Life will continue to move forward.
These photographs preserve the version of life they are living right now. Not an idealized version. The real one.
Including Their Dogs in Their Engagement Photos
For Sarah and Briley, including their three dogs wasn’t an afterthought. It was an important part of telling their story honestly.
The dogs followed us from room to room, occasionally stealing attention and creating some of the most genuine moments from the entire session. Those moments are often the ones couples return to years later.
Not because everything looked perfect, but rather because everything felt familiar.

This session was photographed using a combination of both film and digital photography.

Digital allows me to respond quickly to changing moments while maintaining consistency throughout the gallery.
